LUKAS Completes Most Successful Product Launch in 20 Years

Rescuers around the world trust LUKAS rescue tools to help them save lives in demanding conditions. So when the team developed its next generation of battery-powered rescue tools, it went straight to the people who use them in the field.
Based in Erlangen, Germany, LUKAS is part of IDEX Fire & Safety and serves fire and rescue teams across Europe, Asia and other global markets. Its new E4TM battery-powered rescue tool series debuted at Interschutz 2026, the world’s largest fire and rescue trade show, and delivered the company’s strongest initial new series launch in two decades.
"We really started from scratch and asked customers and dealers, 'What do you like about the tools? What don't you like?'" Product Manager at LUKAS said. "The big issues customers saw with E3, we tried to make better with E4."
The Handle Becomes the Breakthrough
For more than 25 years, LUKAS used a similar aluminum handle design. Few inside the company saw it as an area for innovation. That’s until rescuers asked for greater durability, better ergonomics and improved insulation around modern electric vehicles.
The team responded with a high-strength composite handle that improves insulation, resists damage and provides 360-degree protection around the tool. Engelhardt said it has become one of the E4 rescue tools’ most talked-about feature.
The design will also be incorporated into future HURST rescue tools, including the next generation of Jaws of Life® products.
