Viking Pump, Inc. in Cedar Falls, Iowa (USA) capped off their summer as champions. The leader in positive displacement pumping solutions took home the First Place Grand Marshall Trophy for the local 2024 Sturgis Falls Parade.
The theme for this year’s parade celebration was “Making Memories.” Viking Pump has been a part of the Cedar Falls community since 1911 and aimed to showcase the memories they created throughout the years. Account Coordinator Teresa Paulsen led the effort, with the assistance of 11 other employees, to plan, design, and build an impressive float in seven weeks.
The float was designed as a large Polaroid camera with a picture emerging from it. Surrounding the edge of the trailer were various sized parts and pumps, displaying historical pictures.
The Grand Marshall Trophy included an award that is now proudly displayed in their corporate office, along with a $500 cash reward. The parade committee donated the prize money to the Cedar Bend Humane Society, an open-admission, full-service animal shelter that accepts any animal, regardless of age, breed, behavior, or health.
IDEX Fire & Safety employees joined with their marketing partner Fire Department Coffee to help support those providing relief to the people of western North Carolina impacted by Hurricane Helene.

As part of its efforts to give back, Fire Department Coffee has a Rosenbauer America disaster response truck that includes, among other things, a clothes washer and dryer, and a shower with water heater, to help relief workers get cleaned up so they can continue their valuable work. That includes first responders, many of whom have been working tirelessly since torrential rains from the hurricane caused destructive flash flooding.
Joining the Fire Department Coffee team at various points were IDEX teammates Director of IDEX Fire & Safety North American Marketing & Communications Brent Warwick, Marketing Manager Britt Hawkins, and Marketing Project Manager Lauren Ploof, along with members of their families.
“Serving first responders in the North Carolina mountains in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene is in line with our purpose and mission at IDEX Fire & Safety. And getting to do that alongside our strategic partner, Fire Department Coffee, and two of my kids made it matter even more,” Brent said.
Britt added, “These people faced extreme devastation, yet their tenacious spirit showed through. A kind word, a smile, and a little distraction with a hot cup of coffee was a breath of fresh air for these folks. I am so humbled to have been a small part of it and hope that I may have a picked up a little bit of their spirit to take home with me.”

IDEX Fire & Safety’s partnership with Fire Department Coffee includes our products being featured in their funny social media videos about life as a firefighter. Aside from selling coffee, they also give back to sick and injured firefighters.
“The whole purpose of this project is to protect people’s dignity, the communities affected, and the first responders,” said Randy James, Director of Brand Relations for Fire Department Coffee. “The truck is a dynamic piece of equipment that we utilize when people lose their basic needs. We want to provide a place for them to take a shower, have food, dry clothes, blankets, and so much more. We want to give them a cup of coffee, have a conversation with them, listen to them, and thank them for all they do.”
Hurricane Helene hit on Tuesday, September 24, and its path of destruction not only harmed buildings and roadways, but families, friends, and loved ones across many states. Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia felt the effects of Hurricane Helene as did the rest of the country as many were left to worry or called to help fight the aftermath.

Mott, which joined IDEX through acquisition last month, this week officially opened its latest manufacturing facility, which produces components used in the production of “green hydrogen.”
The new facility – Mott’s third in the Bristol, Connecticut, area – quadruples its production capacity for custom-designed, ultra-thin, porous metal sheets, which are a critical component in the generation of green hydrogen, a low-emission fuel essential for the world’s energy transition.
Mott President Boris Levin (middle) officially cuts the ceremonial opening ribbon with U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (left) and Gov. Ned Lamont (right).
Global demand for hydrogen is expected to increase fivefold by 2050, yet less than 5% of the world’s hydrogen is produced sustainably. Mott’s titanium Porous Transport Layers (PTLs) are among the smoothest and thinnest in the world, allowing for efficient and cost-effective production of green hydrogen.
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Connecticut) and Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont attended a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday, alongside Mott President Boris Levin. The senator and governor each sang the praises of Mott as a creator of manufacturing jobs that support a variety of critical industries, including clean energy, semiconductor, defense, and healthcare.
Mott recently won a $10 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to accelerate design and manufacturing of the next generation of PTLs. These next generation PTLs are expected to help drive down the cost of clean hydrogen, consistent with the federal government’s “Hydrogen Shot” initiative to “reduce the cost of clean hydrogen by 80% to $1 per 1 kilogram in 1 decade,” by 2030.
The facility will also serve as a center of excellence, allowing Mott to rapidly prototype filtration technology for its customers in clean energy, semiconductor, defense, healthcare and other industries.
U.S. Senator Chris Murphy speaks at a press conference.
“This new facility will continue to position Mott as a leader in clean energy development, and add to Connecticut’s strength as a home of innovation and manufacturing,” Levin said. “When combined with our recent $10 million grant from the Department of Energy, this expansion will allow us to quadruple our production capacity and serve more customers in the rapidly growing green hydrogen industry. We could not have gotten here without our tremendously committed employees, who produce world class technology and go above and beyond for our customers every day. We are also grateful to Governor Lamont, Senator Murphy, and our entire Connecticut Congressional delegation for their strong support.”
“Increasing production of green hydrogen—hydrogen power created using renewable energy sources like wind or solar—will help us tackle the climate crisis, create good-paying jobs and lower energy costs for consumers,” Sen. Murphy said. “Mott’s new clean energy facility is another example of how Connecticut is leading the way in clean energy engineering and manufacturing innovation, and I look forward to seeing their continued growth in our state.”
Mott President Boris Levin addresses local community leaders, business partners and employees.

As the extent of damage from Hurricane Helene continues to unfold across the southeastern United States, the IDEX Foundation has approved a $50,000 USD donation to the American Red Cross.
Hurricane Helene caused catastrophic storm surge damage beginning in the “Big Bend” area of Florida’s Gulf Coast. But most surprising may be the devasting flood damage experienced in the mountain towns of western North Carolina, where many locations received well in excess of one foot (30 cm) of rain late last week.
In some instances, rushing river
floodwaters washed away significant portions of small towns. Other communities remain cut off without electricity, communications service, or fresh water. As of Wednesday evening (October 2), at least 180 people in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia were confirmed dead. That number is expected to rise as rescuers reach isolated communities.
Many IDEX colleagues at the HURST Jaws of Life® have friends and family in mountain communities west of the manufacturing facility in Shelby, North Carolina.
“Fortunately, most of our team members and immediate families are well and unharmed from Hurricane Helene,” HURST Site Leader Steve Daino said. “Unfortunately, many are still without power and dealing with property damage, fallen trees, debris, and flood impacts. Some also have extended family and friends in nearby more severely impacted areas that are still isolated and in need of necessities.”
“Despite the adverse impacts to our team, the resilience and desire to help those still in need through donations and volunteer efforts is inspiring. The help and assistance from the IDEX community is greatly appreciated by all impacted,” he said.
While the IDEX Foundation generally supports employees participating in local volunteerism, the charitable arm of IDEX also has a long history of providing relief funding when natural disasters impact communities close to the hearts of our people. Whether hurricanes, floods, wildfires or earthquakes, the IDEX Foundation has provided support for one-the-ground relief.
“I am deeply grateful that we have the opportunity to extend our support to those affected by Hurricane Helene,” IDEX Foundation President Krishna Ranganathan said. “It’s heartbreaking to see the devastation, but I’m incredibly proud that the IDEX Foundation can step in and provide financial assistance to help these communities begin to rebuild. Our hearts are with everyone impacted, and we are committed to standing by them during this challenging time.”
To assist low-income families facing the escalating cost of housing, Precision Polymer Engineering (PPE) collaborated with Habitat for Humanity to construct a new home in their local community.
During a span of two days, 17 employees successfully built over 50 wall components, along with windows and doorframes for the structural framework of the new home. They also contributed to the installation of more than 300 square feet (28 square meters) of siding and over 100 linear feet (300 meters) of soffit, protecting the roof and rafters from potential damage.
This project marks the first time the Texas-based PPE site has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity. Additionally, with the support of the IDEX Foundation, they were able to donate $5,000 to the non-profit organization, which aids people worldwide in building or enhancing affordable and secure homes.
PPE is part of IDEX Sealing Solutions, which engineers and manufactures seals for some of the world’s most demanding and critical applications. The Brenham site primarily serves the sealing needs of semiconductor manufacturers.
IDEX Health & Science in Rohnert Park, California (USA) has made the return to school easier for families, and exciting for students for this 2024-2025 school year.
In late July, employees gathered to assemble backpacks filled with essential school supplies that were later donated to John Reed Elementary School in Rohnert Park. The IH&S team chose the school because 82% of its students are enrolled in the federally funded National School Lunch Program (subsidized or free lunch program), a demonstration of need.
Every student at John Reed Elementary will receive a backpack, ensuring inclusivity for all.
“John Reed Elementary is incredibly appreciative of the donation of backpacks and school supplies for all of our students. As I hand out the backpacks to students, I am touched by the smiles on their faces. This act of kindness has an incredible impact on my school population,” shared Kristy Corbett, Principal, John Reed Elementary School.
Additionally, a portion of the backpacks were donated to the local Boys & Girls Club in Rohnert Park. Having the proper school supplies makes a huge difference to help unlock a student’s potential. These backpacks and school supplies helps take financial pressure off families and schools, potentially removing obstacles and aiding students’ development.
This initiative was made possible by an IDEX Foundation grant of $13,750 to the Kids in Need Foundation (KINF.org), which supplied all the new backpacks and school supplies.
Thanks to the IDEX Foundation, our colleagues at Flow Management Devices prepared over 100 kits containing essential items for children supported by The Foster Alliance.
Based in Phoenix, Arizona (USA), the business initially requested $6,000 USD from the foundation to buy baby and toddler clothing. The foundation board granted them $10,000, allowing FMD to assemble hygiene kits for teenagers and infants as well.
The Foster Alliance offers a range of new necessities for foster children, including beds, cribs, bedding, clothing, shoes, diapers, wipes, personal care items, and more. This initiative was made possible by the dedicated employees who packed each kit.
Flow Management Devices (FMD) is a global leader in designing and producing compact provers. FMD provers are utilized worldwide to ensure the accuracy of flow meters in both custody transfer and non-custody transfer liquid hydrocarbon applications.
Launched during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the IDEX Foundation created the Food Insecurity Challenge to aid families facing difficulties feeding themselves and their families. Fast forward four years, it has evolved into a platform to embody our collective mission, bring our teams together, and assist the communities we are part of.
This year held extra significance as it commemorated the 10th anniversary of the IDEX Foundation. In honor of this milestone, the foundation increased food pantry donations to $10,000, up from $5,000 in previous years resulting in over $500,000 USD donated worldwide.
Once again, our global teams embraced the annual challenge, collecting food for their local pantries, as well. Let’s see how their competitive spirit translated into acts of kindness for others:
